The only thing I do not like is the tendency for this hub to tip over. I had thumb drives, cameras, and external HDs that all required a USB Hub. When I put the CPU of my desktop computer on the floor to save deskspace, I quickly realized that I needed a USB Hub. I have it pushed between two books, and it is doing fine, there. Using this 7-Port Hub made my life easier. I have already gotten it pretty much full, and it does not take up a lot of space. This makes it difficult to get to the two USB ports on the back side of the hub, though. Still, it is way better than trying to get to the USB ports on the back side of my CPU.
At first it looked a little goofy, but the port location cleaned up my the tangle of wires while leaving easy access that I seem to always have a USB stick in it ready to use. I don't understand the need for a powered hub, but I'll assume that some devices need a little more juice that others. Since adding this to my iMac all the devices are always detected.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 running XP SP3 and wanted to connect a "WD My Passport Essential" to it. My only VERY minor complaint is that it has to be unplugged to turn the hub off - it would be nice if it had an on/off switch. I plugged it in, connected all my peripherals, and connected the hub to one of 2 USB ports.
When connecting the external hard drive (to the non-powered hub or to an available USB port) I kept getting a USB port overload message. With 7 ports (and a free USB port on my laptop), I still have room to connect several other peripherals if I want. I was using a non-powered hub connecting an HP PSC 2210 all-in-one, a PS/2 keyboard connected by a USB adapter, and a USB mouse.
I booted up, then connected the external hard drive - worked like a charm. I ordered my new CyberPower powered hub. I received it sooner than expected.
The hub takes up very little room and has a rubberized bottom to help keep it from slipping around. By the way, I love the blue light :)
However, the hub simply won't stay connected to my USB devices. I purchased this product based on all of the great reviews. I love the compactness and the ability to have 7 devices instead of just the typical 4. After a few minutes of working, anything connected to the hub will lose it's connection.Hopefully this is simply a single, bad unit. I will return it to the company for repair and will update this review once I hear back.
This little guy is really small but I think that's one of the best characteristics. No problems with the device. Machine recognized it immediately. I would buy this item again if I needed one.
